When the liberating influence of the Christ loosens the fetters of false ideologies and scholasticism, we rise into the awareness of true, spiritual being. We soar above earth beliefs, above the petty prejudices, fears, superstitions, and hates of material sense. No longer are we afflicted by them. The upward surge of spiritual love, joy, peace, and freedom constitutes for us a rebirth, an awakening to life invested in divine consciousness.
Says Mary Baker Eddy in her article entitled "The New Birth" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 15), "Nothing aside from the spiritualization—yea, the highest Christianization —of thought and desire, can give the true perception of God and divine Science, that results in health, happiness, and holiness."
This divine Science explains God as Life, as Spirit, Mind, not to be found in matter, and Life as infinite and eternal. Divine Science exposes the lie of the carnal, or mortal, mind, that suppositional intelligence claiming opposition to God, infinite Mind. Matter, the evidence of the lie of material so-called intelligence, has no existence outside of false belief. It remains forever within the realm of unreality. From the erroneous premise of life and intelligence apart from God issue the deceptions of sin and sorrow, sickness and fear. We are delivered from them only by the transformation of our thinking from the human to the divine, a transformation wrought by Christian Science, which teaches that God, self-existent Spirit, is All and produces all. Under its divine tutelage we learn that the material concept of man is an illusion of material sense, while the real, ideal man, created in Mind's likeness, is divinity's idea. Perfect, immortal, he is an individual spiritual consciousness, including every right idea for his completeness; he is sinless, diseaseless, joyous, fearless, and free.
