I first learned of Christian Science when I was a little girl, through my mother's sisters; but my father was so opposed that for many years I was denied the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School or reading the textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Later my longing to learn more of God gave me the courage and strength to take my stand, and I finally gained my father's consent to attend Sunday School.
My first healing was that of periodic tonsillitis. During the intervening years I have had many healings—physical, moral, and financial. I was instantly healed of a cold through my own application of the truths I had learned in Christian Science, and I was healed very quickly, through the help of a practitioner, of a severe case of food poisoning.
St. Paul tells us in Romans (12:2), "Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Through my study and application of Christian Science I have gained a clearer realization of my true selfhood as a child of God. I have been healed of smoking, of using tea and coffee, and of a taste for wine. But I wish to express gratitude particularly for the healing of a depraved appetite for reading murder mysteries.
