In 1903 my mother was healed instantaneously in Christian Science of a physical difficulty while she was attending The Mother Church. I was placed in the Christian Science Sunday School and had the privilege of attending for fourteen years. The truths I learned there have guided me all my life.
Hornet stings, mumps, and earache were overcome instantaneously, and a severe case of black diphtheria was healed when I seemed to be entering "the valley of the shadow of death" (Ps. 23:4). A most outstanding incident was the protection from fire. One evening while I was preparing the evening meal, first my apron and then my dress caught fire. My mother responded to my call for help and smothered the flames with her dress just as they were leaping to my hair. My apron, dress, and slip were completely ruined, but I was not burned. I shall never cease to be grateful for this proof of God's loving care and protection.
