ALONE WITH GOD

From the August 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Does anyone find it hard to come into his place of usefulness in this present world? Are there those who are having a difficult time, perhaps feeling lonely, sorrowful, and not knowing which way to turn to find their right activity? Then let them remember that in spite of every suggestion of fear, doubt, or hatred, they may rise with renewed vigor and fresh inspiration out of their despondency to divine heights of spiritual understanding and enlightenment. In this secret holy place they find their work, their righteous activity, ever at hand.

Someone may ask: "But how may I rise out of despondency and reach these divine heights? How may I learn to be alone with God and be satisfied? How may I truly learn that God is an ever-present help, Father, and friend?" To be alone with God does not necessarily mean that we shall find ourselves without friends, debarred from human companionship, for the more we learn to be alone with Him the sooner we shall find those being drawn to us who desire to find Christian Science and peace.

To be truly alone with God is to have absolute trust and confidence in His loving, tender care; to rejoice that He is ever at hand to heal and to bless. In this comforting assurance we may trustingly bring all our thoughts into line with Truth and so be filled with love and peace and deep contentment. Proportionately as we seek His guidance, we shall find ourselves conscious that our heavenly Father is leading us and tenderly caring for us. To be alone with God means that we are daily praying to Him in secret, acknowledging man's forever oneness with Him as His idea, and striving to express infinite good at all times and under all circumstances, endeavoring always to see creation as it really is, perfect as the Father, forever reflecting His divine qualities.
