OUR CHRISTIAN WARFARE

From the August 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Throughout the world the divine concept of man as God's image and likeness, created free by divine right, is being aggressively challenged by those who, as yet unenlightened as to man's spiritual nature, would overthrow the foundations of Christianity and the freedom it bestows.

Earnest students of Christian Science understand that today's warfare is not a conflict between nations, peoples, or races, but a struggle between the forces of righteousness and those of the so-called carnal mind. Thus Christian Scientists recognize that in order to fulfill their mission of helping protect humanity from error's false propaganda and vicious attacks, their lives must be dedicated to God's service in the healing and redemption of mankind.

The Christian Scientist therefore realizes that confusion in the field of international relations, wars, disasters, suffering, human woe, and fear of atomic warfare are only certain phases of evil's attack on spirituality . And while co-operating vigorously with human efforts to strengthen the strongholds of freedom at home and abroad, he does not overlook the fact that his warfare is against the sum total of suppositional error, which includes sin, disease, false appetites, death, lack, limitation, unemployment, and every subtle argument of the carnal mind.
