We knew our Bible well, chapter and verse.
From childhood's days, and would with pride declaim
Psalm after psalm, and accurately rehearse
The stories of the blind, deaf, dumb, and lame.
We thought we had obeyed its teachings. Strange
That we should so neglect the healing power!
"These signs shall follow them." Why should that change,
Or "Heal the sick" be for some bygone hour?
Then Science came and with its radiant key
Unlocked the meaning of the sacred page
Wherein, enlightened now, we humbly see
Man in God's image, and Love's heritage.
And as with gratitude we understand,
Behold, the healing Truth is here at hand!
