Christian Science was introduced to my family when I was four years of age. At that time my father, who had suffered for several months from consumption and had been given up by his physician, was healed through the work of a Christian Science practitioner. After this healing my parents became devout students of Science, and my sister and I became regular attendants at the Christian Science Sunday School. Since then I have experienced countless blessings through the study and application of Christian Science, not least among which is the privilege of bringing up two children according to the precepts of this religion.
When our six-year-old daughter manifested a serious mastoid condition a practitioner was immediately called. The next day the child's ear began to drain, and within twenty-four hours the healing was complete. Later, when this child was in the eighth grade, she injured her arm. An X-ray picture indicated that a bone in the forearm had been split. Through the consecrated prayer of a practitioner the bone mended, and she was able to use her arm freely within four days.
Our younger child, when he was seven years of age. was sent home from school one day at the time of a scarlet fever epidemic with the symptoms of that disease. The assuring words of one of the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal dispelled our fear (No. 148):
