"ASK ME OF THINGS TO COME CONCERNING MY SONS"

From the October 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Does someone desire to know the whereabouts of a loved one reported missing in action? In Isaiah (45:11) there is a statement which leaves no doubt as to where man's true position and condition are to be sought: "Ask me [God] of things to come concerning my sons." And in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy states (p. 120), "The Science of Mind-healing shows it to be impossible for aught but Mind to testify truly or to exhibit the real status of man."

The study of Christian Science teaches us that this asking, or prayer, is not imploring a distant Deity to move loved ones from danger to safety, from one geographical location to another, from the armed forces to civilian life. Prayer in Christian Science is the realization of the truth that God, Spirit, Life, Mind, made man in His own image; hence man is spiritual, perfect, eternal. Thus a human being, controlled by so-called mortal mind and subject to material laws, is not the Godlike, spiritual man, to whom God gave dominion over all the earth. Christian Science reveals spiritual man alone to be real and shows that the false sense of an individual at the mercy of destructive warfare disappears in proportion as the truth of man's Godlike nature is accepted and demonstrated.

Christian Science reveals that because man is God's ever-present reflection, his position in Mind is changeless; his condition, spiritual perfection, is harmonious and unimpairable. The truth of man's spiritual and indestructible nature operates as a law of annihilation to the illusion that he can be restricted, lost, or destroyed. It demonstrates safety wherever an individual may be.
