I began the study of Christian Science at a time when I had searched many philosophies and had rebelled against all my former teachings. I was at a point of utter despair and despondency. My first healing came a few days after my initial visit to a Reading Room to ask for information about Christian Science. I had been having severe trouble with my eyes, and the doctor had told me there was nothing he could do. I had been able to read only a short time in the evenings. I left my office after work one afternoon and went again to the Reading Room. Later, when the librarian came to tell me it was time to close, I was overjoyed to realize that I had been reading for nearly four hours and that my eyes did not hurt. Since that evening in the Reading Room I have never feared to read any number of hours. Also the feeling of despair and despondency disappeared at the same time.
The six years since then have brought a constant joy as I have based an understanding of Truth on the foundation that Christian Science provides. I have seen many instances of the healing power of this Science. One that will always stand out to me took place several years ago. When I returned home from work one evening I became very ill and went to bed. The next morning m first thought was to call a practitioner. but I could not get out of bed for many hours. When I finally got to the floor and telephoned the practitioner it was four o'clock in the afternoon, I had been conscious but unable to direct my thoughts, and as I lived alone, there had been no one to help me. The next morning my thoughts were clear, although there was no change physically. This state continued for three days. Each day I called the practitioner.
The morning of the fourth day I awoke completely headed.
