"Let the redeemed of the Lord say so" (Ps. 107:2). In obedience to this command, I wish to express my gratitude for the way in which my life has been redeemed through Christian Science. Although I attended the Christian Science Sunday School as a child, after my marriage I gradually drifted away from the practice of its teachings and some years later found myself in a state of mental unrest and with a severe bronchial disease. In fact, I was told by two physicians that there was no hope of my living through the winter unless I moved to a desert region and restricted all my activities.
At that time my cousin, who was a Christian Scientist, returned from Europe and urged me to take up an earnest study of Christian Science as a solution to my problems. At first I was reluctant to give up the false sense of life with its self-pity, self-love, and self-justification which had brought about the problems. However, at the insistence of my cousin and with his help I began the struggle back to peace and health.
After several years of earnest endeavor to practice the truth, which I soon came to love, I can look back on many beautiful healings that were the result of applying the teachings of Christian Science, as set forth in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Peace of mind has been gained, the bronchial trouble has faded into nothingness, lost articles have been recovered, and supply has been demonstrated. Our family has had healings of a broken hand, fever, sties, sore-throat, a foot infection, and the habits of social drinking and smoking. Of far greater importance, however, is the spiritual growth attained and the knowledge that when we build our lives in the way Christian Science teaches, we build on the Rock, Christ. A happier home, more satisfying friendships, and better relations with my fellow man have all followed as a natural consequence of such building.
