THE DIVINE AND HUMAN COINCIDENCE

From the October 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science is the Holy Ghost, or Comforter, because its purpose is to bring comfort or healing to sick and sinning humanity. Prophesied by the Master, the Christ as revealed in Christian Science is specifically designed to prove the power and presence of God in human affairs. Its divine intent is the salvation of mankind, and therefore its design is inevitably redemptive. In the words of the Revelator, as found in the twelfth chapter of Revelation, Christian Science declares, "Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ."

It is important for us to see that we not only must understand the metaphysical facts in Christian Science, but must be able to demonstrate them humanly. A correct understanding of Christian Science never permits one to ignore the human problem. In Science the divine facts of being, the perfection of God and His idea, man, must always be intelligently applied to the so-called mortal or material condition.

Christian Science never loses sight of the human need. It is human experience that needs correction and healing. Abstract metaphysics does not suffice in the legitimate practice of Christian Science. When the Word is "made flesh," the divine reaches and dispels the human belief. The Word, the spiritual idea, is made humanly practical. The spiritual fact is absolute, but it must be intelligently applied in eradicating whatever appears as the error or false belief entertained in human consciousness. It is in this practical application that the Christ operates as the Saviour.
