COURAGE

From the April 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Moral courage is 'the lion of the tribe of Juda,' the king of the mental realm," says Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 514). Moral courage is God-derived and is made evident in our human experiences as fear and bondage to material thinking are overcome. This is because man is inherently free from fear. As God's image he reflects infinite confidence. Although, relatively speaking, some men seem to possess more courage than others, in reality everyone has the full assurance of Love's dominion. This fact needs to be established in human consciousness so that the evil beliefs of so-called mortal mind may be held in check.

Courage is defined as that quality of thought "which enables one to meet danger and difficulties with firmness" and confidence. One who has moral courage is not afraid to challenge mortal mind and see its nothingness, to go into battle with material sense wearing the armor of Truth, the sword of the Spirit, and the breastplate of righteousness. Such a one endures to the end of error, no matter how . real that error may seem. He stands midst the arguments of pain until the storm is past and the resurrective light of Spirit appears. He never yields to fear or doubt, but trusts to Mind's unfoldment.

Christian Science teaches us how to establish the fact that man is forever untouched by fear. Through the study and application of Christian Science, students are daily and continually destroying the dream shadows of disease and fear which have been inflicted upon mortal bodies. Courage of conviction in the reality of God as All-in-all wipes away fearful illusions and brings to light God's beautiful creation.
