THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY GHOST

From the April 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At times one hears serious objections raised to Christian Science on the score that Christian Scientists do not observe certain long-established ordinances of the Bible or follow all the observances of the Master and the practices of his disciples. However, the Discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, states as the first religious tenet of Christian Science (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

Discoveries, revelations, yea, even human inventions, are based upon facts or truths that have previously existed and have therefore been a present possibility. Yet they had remained undiscerned, and thus unused, for centuries. The only need was for a quickening of human consciousness, but lacking this, the discovery, invention, or revelation was just as much hidden and nonavailable to mankind as though it were utterly impossible.

Christian Science is a divinely mental and spiritual revelation. Mrs. Eddy discovered it in 1866. She presented it to mankind in her book, Science and Health, in 1875, but only after she had carefully tested and demonstrated its statements and propositions.
