In 1917 I was suffering from throat trouble, and I seemed to be losing my voice. One day a shopmate who was a Christian Scientist came to me and told me that he thought Christian Science could help me. I called on a practitioner that evening. The next morning on my way to work on my bicycle I kept thinking of the fourteenth chapter of John, which I had read the night before. Another Bible verse also came to my thought which, referring to wisdom, says (Prov. 3:17), "Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace." Just then I gave a slight cough, and my voice came back as clear as a bell. I was greatly surprised at what had happened, for it had seemed a miracle. I decided to study Christian Science and purchased a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I attended a few lectures on Christian Science, but I did not understand it; so I did not pursue the study of this Science further at that time.
In 1946 my wife passed on, and I was left alone. Both my sons were married, and I was so lonesome that I did not know what to do. One day when I was looking in my bookcase I saw the name Science and Health. I took out the book and began to read it, and from then on I really began to study Christian Science. I was strengthened spiritually by the realization that God is ever present with man. The Master said (John 14:23), "If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." I saw that man can never be separated from his creator, God, and I was greatly comforted.
Through continued study I have been healed of many physical ills, including the following: low blood pressure, hemorrhoids of twenty years' standing, colds, and headaches. The knowledge that God's presence is ever with me has helped me to solve problems in connection with my work.
