It is with sincere gratitude that I thank God for His great love and for Mrs. Eddy, whose unselfed love, consecration, and purity enabled her to reveal to mankind the way of salvation and healing that Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, had practiced centuries before.
In 1941, after I had suffered for several years from sickness, fear, and uselessness, I was examined and X-rayed by a physician, who diagnosed the difficulty as tuberculosis. In great anguish and being unwilling to accept this verdict, I turned prayerfully to God for help. I had heard that Christian Scientists turned to God alone in every need and that many healings of incurable diseases had been experienced. Without hesitation I called a Christian Science practitioner for help. I will never cease to be grateful for the love, the patience, and the depth of understanding expressed by the practitioner who helped me throughout this experience.
In a few weeks' time I had regained my strength, lost my great fear of the disease, and also fear of a heart condition with which I had been troubled for five years. In a month I was a useful and happy member of our home, although the healing was not yet complete. During that period I continued to study Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and her other writings and I tried earnestly to live according to the teachings of Jesus given in the Sermon on the Mount; and I learned a much-needed lesson on brotherly love and forgiveness.
