When I first began to read the articles in the Christian Science periodicals I felt that they would help me to learn to be more loving. I admired those who expressed love and kindness toward their fellow man, and I desired to do likewise. Christian Science has proved to be of great help to me in loving my brother man, and I am deeply grateful for what I have learned so far. In Genesis (1:26) we read, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." Since God is Love, as the Bible tells us, man in His likeness must be loving; and I rejoice to know that we can bring this truth to light more and more in our human experience.
Before beginning the study of Science I had often wondered what would be the highest right in different situations. Through spiritualizing my thought Christian Science has given me a surer sense of what is right. Our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes in Science and Health (p. 448), "It is Christian Science to do right, and nothing short of right-doing has any claim to the name." I am much indebted to Christian Science and to a practitioner for awakening me to many of the modes of mortal thought which would blind one to what is right.
In her book "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 1) Mrs. Eddy defines Christian Science as follows: "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." It has been proved to me that we demonstrate health by obeying the law of God. When a problem of heart trouble arose, the practitioner who was helping me pointed out how I could better align my thinking with God's law, and I tried to do this. My health was restored, for which I am indeed grateful; but this healing did not come about quickly, and for a time I felt very much discouraged. Then one day I felt as though a great weight had suddenly been lifted from me and knew that the healing had taken place.
