Testimonies of Healing

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health...

From the November 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (Pref., p. xi). "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation." It is a joy to testify that my healings have resulted "from the operation of divine Principle."

Many years ago I suffered from diabetes and anemia, both of which the doctors pronounced incurable. I was full of fear because of dizziness and weakness, which were accompanied by occasional fainting spells. But my extremity was God's opportunity. A friend recommended Christian Science to me and invited me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, which I did. With happy faces several men and women testified of healing and expressed gratitude to God. After the service I was eager to learn more of this wonderful truth and of how I too could be healed. My friend told me that I could select a practitioner from the Journal, and I did so. Through this practitioner's expression of love, humility, and gentleness, as well as through his understanding that God is the only healer, I was instantaneously healed, and the difficulties have never returned. I loved Christian Science from that moment and began attending church services, testimony meetings, and lectures.

After a while, however, I drifted away, thinking that if I needed another healing I could always ask for Christian Science help again. Some time later, when I was out of work, in need of decent clothing, and without even the means to pay for a haircut, I started again to attend church. Because of my destitute appearance, I always sat in the last row so that I could leave immediately after the close of the service without talking to anyone. However, a member of that church noticed my need and after the service made it a point to speak to me. but still I hurried out. That happened twice; but the third time this dear woman took hold of my arm and tenderly inquired if she could be of assistance in any way. I told her that I was out of employment and would like to have treatment in Christian Science but that I had no money. She said that she would be happy to work for me. On my way home I met a friend who offered me a job, which I accepted.
