Testimonies of Healing

My interest in Christian Science began...

From the March 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My interest in Christian Science began when it healed my husband of chronic dyspepsia. This healing took place while he was of middle age. From then on until his passing at eighty-three he ate what he pleased, and there was never any reference to dietetic theories.

One of my first healings was that of an acute illness. A practitioner was called, and when she came I voiced the thought that I had pneumonia. "What is pneumonia any more than anything else to Christian Science?" she asked in an offhand way which helped to dispel my fear. The third day I was up, and within a week I was quite normal.

At another time early in my study of Christian Science I was seized with pain in my back while on shipboard. I managed to conceal my suffering until our arrival in Boston, Massachusetts. As soon as we were settled I had a practitioner called. She came to see me early in the evening and gave me a treatment. The next day I remained in my room and was fairly comfortable, but at bedtime the pain was so excruciating that I could neither lie down nor sit down. My husband suggested that I call a doctor, but I said, "No, call the practitioner." The moment the practitioner answered the telephone I lay down and went soundly to sleep until next morning, when the whole experience seemed no more than a dream. The rest of the week was spent in sight-seeing without a trace of the trouble.
