God, the one and only cause and creator, is divine Love. He is infinite Spirit, and He enfolds His spiritual creation in His limitless power and tenderness. Christ Jesus understood, taught, and demonstrated this eternal truth. The Master knew himself to be the loved Son of his all-powerful, all-loving Father. He knew that God forever loves, preserves, and blesses all of His spiritual creation. He emphasized God's tender care for His children by describing His constant provision for His creatures. He said (Matt. 6:26): "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"
Jesus demonstrated in countless ways the depth and breadth of God's love for His people. He told his disciples that they could prove their gratitude to God and to him only by loving and blessing mankind. He assured them that the eternal Christ, the spiritual idea of God, was always present and would continue with them forever. He said (Matt. 28:19, 20), "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
When Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christian Science she discovered the Science of universal Love, which Jesus taught and demonstrated. When the first clear, glorious view of this divine Science dawned upon her consciousness in 1866, it comforted, blessed, and healed her. Thirty-nine years later she wrote of herself: "Today my soul can only sing and soar. An increasing sense of God's love, omnipresence, and omnipotence enfolds me. Each day I know Him nearer, love Him more, and humbly pray to serve Him better" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 174).
