"Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (Matt. 12:34). With joy I give thanks to God for Christian Science. Some time after my husband became interested in this Science, I decided to study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I attended Christian Science services for nearly a year before I glimpsed the healing power of Truth when a badly decayed tooth was saved through the help of a Christian Science practitioner.
Yet I did not believe that I could be healed of a painful nerve affection, which was the aftereffect of an attack of grippe in my late teens. The condition was most painful. For years I had to wrap my head in a woolen scarf to enable me to get some sleep at night. I had consulted many physicians and finally had sought the aid of a leading Continental nerve specialist, who had pronounced the case incurable.
I continued to study the textbook earnestly and was greatly impressed by the beauty of its text and particularly by its revelation of the real man's freedom from evil and of his dominion. The definition of God as Mother, as well as Father, opened up an entirely new outlook of God's great love and tender care for all His children. I felt sincerely grateful to Mrs. Eddy for revealing to us these deep things of God. I became so engrossed in my study that I did not notice when the healing actually took place; but suddenly I realized that I had been freed from my years of servitude to the discordant nerve condition.
