My experience in Christian Science has...

From the April 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My experience in Christian Science has been a rich one, extending over a period of thirty years. The first articles I read in a Christian Science Sentinel convinced me that Science was the truth I had been searching for. Words fail me when I try to express my gratitude for my healing in Christian Science, for I was raised to health from semi-invalidism. However, it is because of the spiritual transformation which immediately began to take place in my thinking that I want to give heartfelt thanks to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving her discovery to the world.

From infancy I was considered a delicate child, and serious illness often kept me from joining in the usual activities of young people. Once when my life was despaired of my mother told me that prayers had been made for my recovery in the church we attended and in the Sunday School. This awakened in me a puzzling question: If the sick could be healed by prayer, why were we depending upon the doctors and medicine for cures? So when a friend told us I could be healed in Christian Science I was anxious to try it. My recovery under the care of physicians was at a standstill, and the testimonies in the Christian Science literature were so encouraging that I bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Through reading it and attending church services, in about three months I was freed from a stomach disorder, a pernicious cold, and deafness, resulting from an eardrum that had been ruptured in my childhood. When I visited a kind and understanding practitioner a weak heart condition was overcome, and my perplexing questions about God were answered satisfactorily. Because of my remarkable improvement members of my family and friends turned to Christian Science for help too.

Especially do I want to express my gratitude for the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. The Bible references with their spiritual explanation as given in the textbook furnish the student with an enlarged understanding of the Scriptures, of God, man, and the universe. They unfold divine Love as the ever-present, omnipotent cause, the All-in-all. No other form of study could so enable the student to raise his thinking from a material to a spiritual basis and equip him to meet every circumstance as its master.
