"THANK GOD FOR EVERYTHING"

From the April 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Having finished the early morning study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, a mother sat with her head bowed in silent prayer. Her little son, quite accustomed to this practice in the home, touched her lovingly, and looking up into her face with a beaming smile said, "Thank God for everything, Mommy." As he bounded away the mother's thought was turned from the small perplexities of the moment to grateful acknowledgment of God's goodness and the fullness of His blessings. As one perceives man as the reflection, or idea, of God, infinite Mind, he sees that the inharmonies of mortal existence have only the substance of a dream, possessing no real stability. God and His creation alone are real and enduring.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p.240), "In the order of Science, in which the Principle is above what it reflects, all is one grand concord;" and in the preceding paragraph she explains that "arctic regions, sunny tropics, giant hills, winged winds, mighty billows, verdant vales, festive flowers, and glorious heavens,—all point to Mind, the spiritual intelligence they reflect." What a happifying custom it is for the Christian Scientist to clarify his thought at the beginning of each day so as to discern God's goodness everywhere.

We can thank God for the record of the words and works of Christ Jesus. The master Christian left no doubt as to the practical worth of his teachings. His works proved the truth of his words. He healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the multitude, stilled the tempest, and passed unharmed through a hostile mob bent on doing him violence. These same works, he said, his followers would do. Jesus left no rules for making use of the Science he so unfailingly demonstrated, but promised that the Comforter would come and teach us all things. This Comforter is Christian Science.
