Jesus said (Matt. 10:8), "Freely ye have received, freely give." I wish to follow that admonition and to express again through our periodicals my gratitude to God for Christian Science and for the many blessings we have received through its study and application. It has now been more than twenty years since my testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel. All the healings therein related, among which were those of typhoid fever in its last stages, ptomaine poisoning, and mercury poisoning, have been permanent.
During the ensuing years we have had many more proofs of God's loving care. Some of these demonstrations have come through our own understanding, others through the help of consecrated Christian Science practitioners and friends, for and to whom I wish to express sincere gratitude. I have been quickly healed of acute appendicitis, acute indigestion, and tonsillitis.
To me an outstanding though much slower healing was that of chronic sick headaches, which had troubled me since childhood. On page 234 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—be it song, sermon, or Science—blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty." One Sunday while I was teaching a class in the Christian Science Sunday School a sick headache manifested itself; and as it did not yield to my declarations of truth, I felt I could not stay for the church service, which was to be held later. However, I put aside this erroneous suggestion and took my place in the congregation. The headache disappeared during the singing of the solo. It took much earnest work and patience, however, before I was no longer subject to headaches, but the attacks gradually lessened until they finally disappeared.
