TRUTH IS SIMPLE

From the June 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Understanding Christian Science in a degree sufficient to heal requires humble, honest, trustful, and fervent application of thought. It does not call for merely intellectual struggle or attainment. Indeed, the individual who has the most advanced spiritual understanding most readily grasps and uses the simple, basic facts of Truth.

" 'God is Love.' More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go." In these words on page 6 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy explains why the student of this Science never outgrows the most simple declarations of Truth. Included in the words "God is Love" is the very essence or foundation of Christian Science teaching. As long as one continues in the search for immortality he grows in his understanding of the full implication of these words, but in doing so he is led to rely all the more firmly on the fundamental truth here simply expressed.

The fact of God's ever-present, loving care is practically expressed in the familiar twenty-third Psalm. Many healings of disease and despair have come through thoughtful repetition of these lines. Why is this? It is not alone the poetry, the beauty, the confident, trustful tone. The twenty-third Psalm is a truly healing prayer because it is an unqualified affirmation of a basic fact of the kingdom of God, the guarding and guiding presence of divine Love.
