I am truly grateful for the privilege of...

From the July 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am truly grateful for the privilege of having been brought up in Christian Science by a loving mother, who became interested in it before the turn of the century. Christian Science was the guiding light of our home life. Each child took part in the demonstrations of Truth to be made. An added contribution on my part was the playing of hymns.

Once when my mother was out of the city I was stricken with a painful type of blindness. My sister and three brothers took turns reading to me from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Even my father, although not interested in Christian Science, read the ninety-first Psalm to me. Within two weeks after my mother's return I was healed. Other healings in our family were those of cancer, polio, diphtheria, and whooping cough, to name only a few.

My early training was invaluable when I grew up and started a home of my own. At one time my husband contracted a contagious throat infection; he was in continual pain and unable to eat. Receiving no relief from his physician, he asked me to help him. Knowing that I must make a statement of truth which was strong enough to help him but simple enough for him to understand, I said slowly and firmly, "You are God's perfect child." Immediately the throat condition began to clear up, and it was soon healed.
