A number of years ago I was confined to my home because of illness. Among my friends was a prominent physician, who diagnosed my case as a very serious condition of the heart, as well as stomach ulcers and an advanced case of Bright's disease. He told my family that I could not live more than twenty or thirty days at the most.
Although not a Christian Scientist, I knew something about its teachings, as my wife was a student of it. We talked things over, and I decided to depend solely on Christian Science in this crisis. For forty-five days I could eat and drink hardly anything. At times the outlook was discouraging, but with the help of a practitioner I kept my thoughts close to God, knowing that my needs would be met. At the end of the forty-five days I arose, dressed, and surprised my family by eating a hearty breakfast. A month later I returned to work.
A few days afterward I stopped at the office of my doctor friend. When he saw me he was surprised and amazed—surprised to see me at all and amazed to see me looking so well. He then called in two of his associate doctors who had assisted him in his diagnosis of my case. They asked many questions and checked me over very carefully. Their examination showed that there was no heart trouble, no Bright's disease, and there were no stomach ulcers. My physical condition was pronounced sound.
