When a girl in my teens, I lived for four years with my sister and her husband, who were devoted Christian Scientists. I became so impressed with the harmony and happiness expressed in their lives and with the way in which they worked out their problems that I began to study Christian Science, for I realized they had something I lacked. From that time on, the Bible became a new book to me, unfolding spiritual truths that never before had been clear. Old fears began to drop away, better health was manifested, and spiritual awakening came to me.
Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 406), "The Bible contains the recipe for all healing." I should like to share several healings which I feel were brought about largely through a better understanding of Bible promises gained from studying the textbook.
One healing, which took place over fifteen years ago, was that of a continual pain in the abdomen. It was not a quick healing, as it took almost six months, during which a faithful practitioner helped me at various times, giving encouragement. At no time was it necessary for me to be absent from my post of duty, work which required me to be very active physically. Much resentment and stubbornness had to be overcome. A thorough mental housecleaning took place, and a better understanding of God and of man's relation to Him was gained. Toward the end of this experience I received great spiritual inspiration, and I knew then that I was healed, even though the pain remained. I continued to stand with the truth and to hold steadfastly to God's promises in the Bible and to this statement from Science and Health (p. 167): "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." It was not long before every vestige of the trouble disappeared.
