It is with a deep sense of gratitude to God for Christian Science that I write this testimony. When my youngest daughter was five years of age, she had mumps. An acquaintance told me something about Christian Science healing and said that if I would call a practitioner, my child would be healed. As I had always believed that God heals through faithful prayer, I decided to do as she said. I am grateful to say that the little girl quickly recovered.
This same child was healed of chronic earache. She awoke one night crying because of it. My first thought was to apply material remedies. Then this thought came: "You have been told that just reading the Christian Science textbook has often brought healing. Now this is your opportunity to prove it." I began to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and became so absorbed in it that I forgot all about the child. When I did think of her, she was peacefully sleeping, freed from the earache.
We have had many healings in our family. Double pneumonia was healed in three days after a practitioner was called. Arthritis was healed at the same time. Influenza was healed after the patient had become delirious. Social drinking and profanity vanished into nothingness. Stomach ulcers of long standing were healed when I realized that my stomach, being matter, had no intelligence to know what was put into it and that the food I ate had no intelligence or power; therefore it could not cause pain or discomfort. Since then I have eaten anything I wanted with no ill effects. That healing took place many years ago. Misunderstandings have been corrected through obedience to these words in one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns (Poems, p. 4):
