OUR APPROACH TO THE HEART OF LOVE

From the February 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Happy the man who realizes through spiritual sense that the only real heart is the great heart of divine Love, and that man is God's image and likeness. Paul wrote (Rom. 5:5), "The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." The human heart which seems to beat in the human breast is only a symbol of the life-giving energies of Spirit, which are expressed by a perpetual spiritual rhythm of harmonious action.

The real heart is not a fleshly organ, beating within the human frame. The material senses outline this view of heart, but this is not true. The material senses do not witness to Truth. They are of the flesh and testify of the flesh; but man, God's beloved son, is of the Spirit and is spiritual. He organizes life through the spiritual senses, and thus he is aware of God's love encompassing and controlling all things.

The real heart is spiritual. An understanding of this will enable one to appreciate the truth of Mary Baker Eddy's statement concerning metaphysics which is to be found in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul."
