Testimonies of Healing

From the February 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a grateful heart I give praise and thanks to God for Christian Science. As did Job (19:25), I too can say, "I know that my redeemer liveth."

After spending many weary years in search of release from pain and semi invalidism due to a diseased condition of one hip, I was told by physicians that this affliction could not be cured and that my only hope for easement of the suffering lay in the use of a wheel chair. In this extremity I turned away from material means and reached out to God through the teachings of Christian Science. I soon felt the warmth and sweetness of Love's presence, breathing a benediction of tender, healing power, and within a few months I was free from the hip disease. About a year and a half later, when pain and mental heaviness suggested that there might be a return of it, this suggestion was destroyed within a few minutes as I recalled some words of a testimony I had heard. In substance they were these: "There can be no return of this disease because I refuse to elevate it to the level of my thinking." There has been no recurrence of the condition in the twenty eight years since then.

A healing of much import to me occurred at the birth of our second child. I had been a student of Christian Science for about four years, experiencing numerous healing and proofs of God's care, but in regard to the anticipated birth I felt mesmerized into a mere dreamy, wishful thinking attitude. Then came the testing time. During the eighteen hours I was in labor I came near "the valley of the shadow of death" (Ps. 23:4). I felt that I was dying, but I did not care. It seemed easier to die than to live. Then these words came into my consciousness: "You can't die, because divine Principle won't let you." So clear and startling was this message that I was roused, and for the next six hours I declared aloud the truths of Christian Science. The birth took place, and I was up and about the house the next day, feeling very much as though I was the one who had been born—born of Spirit.
