GOD THE ONLY MIND

From the August 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippians admonishes them to live in harmony with each other. And he adds (2:5), "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." In this statement Paul points to the solution of all human ills. To have in us the Mind that was in Christ Jesus is to acknowledge and submit to the government of the supreme and all-inclusive God, the one perfect Mind. It is to be obedient to the First Commandment (Ex. 20:3), "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 339), "The basis of all health, sinlessness, and immortality is the great fact that God is the only Mind; and this Mind must be not merely believed, but it must be understood." Christian Science makes available to us the true understanding of this one and only Mind and its perfect creation, and thereby we find the solution of all human ills.

One of the great facts about this only God, or divine Mind, is that He is all-knowing and all-seeing. His creation includes no matter, no material object. It consists only of spiritual ideas, known and seen by Mind as perfect, eternal, indestructible. Since this Mind is the only Mind, it is the Mind of all of its ideas. They reflect the perfect knowing and seeing of their creator. In his recognition of these facts Jesus demonstrated the ability to discern human needs and to meet them immediately. Through his reflection of the one perfect Mind he knew everything which he needed to know about himself and creation.
