What an inspiring incentive to prove the possibilities of infinite good is indicated in Mary Baker Eddy's sentence in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 428): "We must realize the ability of mental might to offset human misconceptions and to replace them with the life which is spiritual, not material." Students of Christian Science are daily proving in their lives the power of mental might, the recognition of the all-power of divine Mind, to offset such human misconceptions as disease, suffering, and limitation of all kinds.
In times of sudden and great need it is possible to turn to the fact of Mind's complete government and thus to reverse what seem to be calamity and disaster. Some years ago a family of Christian Scientists was traveling by train across the country. It was night, and nearly everyone on the train was sleeping. Still awake, the mother of the family had been reading testimonies from the then current Christian Science Sentinel and was very much inspired by a realization of the naturalness of good, illustrated by the healings related.
Suddenly the train received a great jolt, and the Scientist sensed the threat of danger. She immediately reversed that suggestion and declared silently, "It cannot happen!" In the next second it was as though a giant hand had firmly picked up the train from the tracks and laid it down again. Some minutes later it was learned that owing to a mechanical irregularity, the entire train had been derailed. It was a long train, but not a single car had overturned, nor had a single passenger been injured. In a short time a relief train arrived and picked up all the passengers so that they might continue their journey. The general remark was that it was a miracle no harm had been done. The family of Scientists on the train felt a very deep sense of gratitude for the proof of God's protecting power, and for the fact that this power was available to bless all who were aboard the train.
