One who had suffered untold agonies from a feeling of inferiority was given this startling bit of counsel: "Always see yourself in the sunlight." The words did nothing but mystify her, since the sunlight meant to her at that time only the light of solar beams. Finally she decided that the counsel meant for her to come out of the shadows of obscurity and take her place in the sun—her rightful place in life. She prayed earnestly to know how to do this, and her prayers were answered when she learned of Christian Science. She then began to comprehend and appreciate the significance of the wise direction that had been given her. With the dawn of the sunlight of Truth and Love on her consciousness, she gradually came out of the dim shadows of a dream world into Truth and began to enjoy the heritage of freedom and the progressive usefulness which God bestows upon man.
Release from frustration is the priceless privilege awaiting every earnest student of Christian Science. Each one can depart from a somber-hued experience, whether it be manifested as timidity, sickness, unemployment, lack of opportunity, age beliefs, or loneliness, and can take his place in the sun. Scientifically to take one's place in the sun entails an understanding of Mary Baker Eddy's definition of "sun" in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It reads (p. 595), "The symbol of Soul governing man,—of Truth, Life, and Love." Governed by Soul, we are enabled through spiritual sense to dwell in the never-declining sunlight of God's dear love and to reflect God's beneficent government in word and deed.
Paul described the divine plan in his letter to the Ephesians (2:10): "We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." A translation of this enlightening passage is as follows: "God has made us what we are, creating us in Christ Jesus for the good deeds which are prepared beforehand by God as our sphere of action."
