Poems

As a Little Child

From the January 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A child, seeking comfort, to his parents' arms will turn
With open heart and ready thought, to listen and to learn.
With purity untouched by grief, from vain illusion free,
He hears assurances of love with receptivity.

When students strove among themselves, the Master heard, and then
He called to him a little child to stand before the men;
Saying that such as this alone the realm of God should see.
For greatness, Jesus knew, is born of deep humility.

Oh, may I too this lesson learn and, trusting as a child,
Accept true selfhood as it is, complete and undefiled;
Reflection of our Father, God, whose grace apprises me
That His beloved children dwell in heavenly harmony.
