The Bible tells us that God is Love. In James we read (1:17), "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Thus we learn that God is unchanging Love. Regardless of circumstance, condition, or occasion, God's love always remains the same. He continues to express love toward His creation uninterruptedly in all of its fullness and perfection. No action of anyone or anything can cause Love to cease loving, to deviate in the slightest degree, or to be separated from its object, man. No sin, even of the greatest magnitude, can alienate divine Love. No sickness can separate us from Love's healing power. No sorrow can obscure its comforting light. All this is true because God is immutable, and His love, being the very essence of His being, must therefore be unchangeable and forever permanent.
Love is God, and God can never cease to be active or He would cease to be. Because God is omnipresent, His love is always present, and it completely enfolds the universe. This love cannot be affected by evil of any sort because it is of God who is omnipotence. Only disbelief or ignorance of His presence can prevent humanity from experiencing Love's warmth and potency at all times, in every situation.
Many individuals are afraid of God because they are influenced by the false theological teaching that He condemns and punishes mankind. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy corrects this false conception of Deity and sets forth His true nature. She says (p. 140): "The Jewish tribal Jehovah was a man-projected God, liable to wrath, repentance, and human changeableness. The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death."
