"THE CHURCH UNIVERSAL AND TRIUMPHANT"

From the January 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Science church, known as the Church of Christ, Scientist, derives its origin directly from divine Mind. In the Historical Sketch in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 19), "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., is designed to be built on the Rock, Christ; even the understanding and demonstration of divine Truth, Life, and Love, healing and saving the world from sin and death; thus to reflect in some degree the Church Universal and Triumphant."

That which is universal is all-embracing. That which is triumphant is crowned with victory. Thus we see that the Church of Christ, Scientist, reflects or exemplifies in a degree the Church which embraces all creation and shows forth the supreme power of God.

This celestial Church, which is represented by the Church of Christ, Scientist, is defined by Mrs. Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 583), as, "The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle." In this spiritual structure are to be found all the ideas of God, an innumerable host of angelic beings, reflecting the divine nature and glorifying His supreme power.
