At a time when everything looked very dark to me, a dear one gave me some copies of the Christian Science Sentinel. After reading them I realized that Science could help me. A loving practitioner told me how to study the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. From the lending library of a Christian Science Reading Room I borrowed Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and with the Bible and the textbook I began to study the lessons. Later, I became a member of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, in which I enjoyed the privilege of serving on a committee. Since that time Science has brought many blessings into my life.
One day when I boarded a streetcar my head struck a metal object, and I was knocked unconscious. The next thing I knew I was being picked up from the floor. My first thought was that nothing harmful had happened to man, God's idea, because God knows nothing of accidents; and "in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). I was able to continue my journey, but after reaching home I found that I could not raise one arm and that one foot was giving me much trouble. Several times that afternoon I experienced periods of semiblindness. However, I clung to the truth that nothing had happened to my real being.
I was expecting guests for Thanksgiving dinner the next day, and I had misgivings. Should I call and explain that I could not have them, I wondered? Again the message came, "Nothing harmful has happened to man." So I refused to change my plans. That evening I went to the Wednesday testimony meeting, and the next morning I was free in every way. I got up, baked pies, started the dinner, went to church, and was ready to serve dinner when our guests arrived soon after my return from a wonderful Thanksgiving Day service.
