It is with a sense of deep gratitude that I give this testimony of my healing through Christian Science. Several years ago I was worried about many things and suffered from a nervous breakdown, accompanied by attacks of sharp pains in my head. I had to give up my employment and was granted a long leave of absence. During this leave I studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy continuously and had the help of practitioners at different times. But for their help and encouragement I know that I might not have survived, for on several occasions I felt very close to passing on.
One night I read a lecture in The Christian Science Monitor which emphasized that God is always as close to us as our thinking. That thought arrested my attention, and I stopped right there. Then came the angel message: Why, if God is always as close to us as our thinking, then my thought is the door to the one Mind, which is God. Love has been waiting at the door of my consciousness all these years, patiently waiting for me to recognize this great truth that God is always as close to me as my thought of Him. Then the further thought came, Love is right now standing at the door of the consciousness of every man, woman, and child in the whole world, patiently waiting for them also to recognize their individual unity with God. My thought reached out to the entire universe, and for a moment I glimpsed the reality of God's ever-presence.
This realization broke the mesmerism of the illness which had held me in bondage for such a long time. I was entirely healed, and I now enjoy an active, happy life. The consecrated work and loving encouragement of the practitioners during my fiery trial are priceless memories.
