I thank God daily for the protection, health, and harmony that have been mine through the study and application of Christian Science during many years. It has indeed been a staff on which to lean. The first healing that our family experienced came over thirty years ago when one of my sons was healed of diphtheria. The family physician had stated that he could do nothing more and that if my son lived through the night, it would be a miracle.
While walking to a nearby grocery store for some necessary items that afternoon, I met a woman whom I had known only slightly, but who had always impressed me with her friendliness and cheerful disposition. When she asked how we were, I remarked that my son was very ill and that the doctor had stated that he could not live. She asked if I would like to try Christian Science, and she assured me that it could heal my boy. I replied that I would try anything that might be of help.
She then said she would loan me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I accepted the book and read it that night. When the doctor dropped in to check on the case the next morning he was amazed to find that my son was greatly improved. The doctor remarked that a miracle had indeed happened and that we now had nothing to fear. This son returned to his work in about a week, completely well.
