As I think over the many years that Christian Science has answered our family's every need, it is difficult to select particular instances of healing, for there have been so many. I can list three cases in my own experience of what might be called mental surgery. One, which brought me into Christian Science, was the healing of appendicitis. After I had had a physician's diagnosis my husband prevailed on me to have Christian Science treatment instead of an operation. The following day a medical examination made at my request showed there was no trace of the trouble.
Another case of mental surgery was the healing of displaced organs, a condition of long standing. And a third instance was the complete healing of broken bones through Truth alone.
While I was serving as clerk of our branch church, the problem of a goiter presented itself. I became a sorry sight, having lost much weight. The words came to me (Isa. 52:2), "Loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion." I realized that it was the slave who wore the neckband. And I knew too that there were many ways in which I was carrying a burden of personal responsibility. I endeavored to put the responsibility where it belonged and to appreciate and rejoice in my opportunity for service. As I expressed more of the child-thought, expecting my Father-Mother to protect and help me in my work, I was freed.
