When Christ Jesus was born, shepherds heard the heavenly host heralding his birth. These humble men were receptive to the divine presence, which readily finds the heart prepared to accept Christ, Truth. "Glory to God in the highest," rang the good tidings, "and on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2: 14). The Christ, God's immortal Son, which the babe Jesus, when grown to manhood, was destined to reveal, knows no birth, but abides eternally in the Father.
Mary Baker Eddy says in her book "No and Yes" (pp. 36, 37): "Mankind's concept of Jesus was a babe born in a manger, even while the divine and ideal Christ was the Son of God, spiritual and eternal. In human conception God's offspring had to grow, develop; but in Science his divine nature and manhood were forever complete, and dwelt forever in the Father."
As the divine ideal developed to the thought of Jesus, he expressed the power of the Christ. Jesus' embodiment of the divine nature made it possible for him to destroy the carnal nature and its effects. He proved God's will for man to be purity, health, immortal life, and not sin, disease, death.
