Testimonies of Healing

Through the years that I have been a...

From the April 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Through the years that I have been a student of Christian Science, I have always been helped and comforted by reading the testimonies in our publications; so with deep gratitude I should like to add my testimony to show how Christian Science has helped me.

Never having had a physician or a medical diagnosis in the years that I have been a student of this Science, I have not always known the name of some of the difficulties of which I have been healed. However, through my own work and the loving help of practitioners I have been freed from many discordant situations.

A few years ago I experienced a healing of a suppurative condition which I believed to be of a malignant nature. The practitioner of whom I asked help reminded me that in "Unity of Good" our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says (p. 9)., "Destroy the mental sense of disease, and the disease itself disappears." And in "Retrospection and Introspection" she says (p. 94), "When all fleshly belief is annihilated, and every spot and blemish on the disk of consciousness is removed, then, and not till then, will immortal Truth be found true, and scientific teaching, preaching, and practice be essentially one." There was much fear to be overcome in my thought, but when the "spot and blemish on the disk of consciousness" was cleared away, the discharge ceased, and the healing took place.

At one time I shut the door of the car on my thumb. I opened the door to release the thumb and then drove home without looking at the injury. On the way I repeated aloud "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

Upon reaching home I telephoned a practitioner, who lovingly worked for me and reminded me that there are no accidents in Mind and that since God knew nothing of the accident, I must know that it never happened to my real being. My heart overflowed with gratitude as I recalled the truths I had learned in Christian Science and the proofs of God's love our family had had. The distress ceased shortly after the practitioner took up work, and the thumb was soon all right.

The love and patience expressed by our practitioners, who so faithfully follow the teachings of our Master, Christ Jesus, and our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, help us to overcome any situation that is not of God, good. I give humble gratitude to God for their untiring work.

My husband and I have been protected on many trips, both by air and automobile, through our daily study of the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. Two of our sons were in the service of our country during World War II, and they were most beautifully protected throughout their experiences in distant parts of the world.

Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 233): "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil." To give daily evidence of such progress is my deep desire. I am very grateful to be a member of The Mother Church and a branch church and to have had the privilege of class instruction.—
