CHRISTIAN SCIENCE AND OUR TIMES

From the July 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus once rebuked the Pharisees and Sadducees who asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He said (Matt. 16:3), "Ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" Jesus demonstrated the Science of real being, whose basis is the allness of Spirit and the perfection of man, God's image and likeness.

The Master knew that demonstrations of divine power were the signs of his times and of all times, that Spirit is supreme, and that the material sense of existence is transitory and unreal. Before the might of this truthful knowing, the limitations and inharmonies imposed by matter were broken down, and its so-called laws were trampled under foot.

Do we discern the signs of our times? Are we observing the changes rapidly taking place in human thinking? Are we utilizing the knowledge of real being as it has come to us through Christian Science, and are we applying that knowledge specifically to meet the challenge of today? For instance, is matter real to us? Is it substance, lawgiver, power? Or is it a counterfeit of true substance, as Christian Science declares?
