When I read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for the first time, I was greatly impressed by the allegory of the court case, given on pages 430-442.
A few years later, while in a foreign country, I had an opportunity to prove the efficacy and logic of this Science during the tangles of a lawsuit. After my father's passing, a certain amount of money was demanded of me in connection with my father's business. This claim was entirely unjustified, and therefore I refused the demand. The case was taken to court, and the plaintiff claimed payment from me on the basis that I was his employer. The writ was drawn up cleverly, and my lawyer informed me that I had not the slightest chance of winning the case before this special court.
I was completely ignorant of court proceedings. But I remembered the allegory in our textbook, and I had the feeling that God was the only judge in this case. And I was confident that He would judge rightly. However, at the end of the trial, I was ordered to pay half of the plaintiff's claim and also half of the court costs.
