Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes (Science and Health, p. 62), "The entire education of children should be such as to form habits of obedience to the moral and spiritual law, with which the child can meet and master the belief in so-called physical laws, a belief which breeds disease." This statement summarizes my early experience.
The son of consecrated Christian Scientists, I was taught habitual obedience to divine law through family discussions, supplemented by attendance in the local Christian Science Sunday School from the age of two years.
During my first year of high school I became a member of The Mother Church, which has been a source of guidance ever since. Fear of tests of all kinds was overcome as I learned to claim intelligence as a quality of God, the one Mind, strength as the expression of omnipotence, and music as evidence of the voice of Soul. Faithful application led to my acceptance by the college of my choice, accompanied by a scholarship award.
