The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in Science and Health (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care." One trial I never expected to experience is that which is held in a courtroom. Early one morning I was given a police summons and was told that I had driven through a red traffic light. I remembered exactly how I had approached that intersection and knew that I was innocent.
Before I went to court I studied, with the help of the Concordances to the Bible and to Mrs. Eddy's writings, such words as "justice" and "judgment." These words from Psalms were helpful (89:14): "Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face."
At the appointed hour, as I watched several people stand before the judge, plead guilty, and pay their fines, I was tempted to do the same, but I knew this would not be right. Thus, when my name was called, I took my stand for Principle, and pleaded not guilty.
