About ten years ago I became interested in Christian Science, the most important event in my life. I had known of Christian Science for several years and had tried to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, but was not ready to receive this great truth; so finally I put the book aside, not in opposition but in puzzlement.

Through the explanations of a dear friend, I was made aware of the beauty of this religion; but I did not understand its practicality until I turned to it wholeheartedly and at a time when it seemed as if all human aid had failed. My husband was unemployed, and so was I. In addition, I was suffering from a painful eye ailment which eye specialists had been unable either to name or to cure.

In the midst of pain and lack I was led to go to the Christian Science Reading Room in the city where I lived, and I again borrowed a copy of the textbook. At such a time it seemed foolish and impractical in the extreme to embark on the study of religion of any kind. However, I was so strongly drawn to the book that for several days I did little except read. And this time I began to understand.
