TRUE PRAYER

From the March 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE reveals the beauty, simplicity, and spiritual power of true prayer. This Science teaches man's inseparability from God and the all-inclusiveness of His perfection, goodness, and power. It also teaches that true prayer awakens consciousness to this truth and to the availability and effectiveness of God's law to make the truth manifest.

Scientific prayer includes the affirmation of truth or divine law, and the intelligent denial of all that is unlike God, good. True prayer lifts one's thought above the demands of matter and transforms experience by replacing sickness with health, sin with purity, and fear and despair with freedom and happiness.

An imperative need in learning to pray aright is to improve our thinking by striving to be more Christlike. We need to manifest in our daily living more humility and grace, more purity, goodness, and holiness, which are the divine energies of Spirit, before we can obtain consistently the fruition of prayer.
