THE search for God is in every heart, consciously or unconsciously, for in every heart there is a spark of good. Either through trials or through the love of good itself, men in their search for God strive to gain a clearer concept of Deity. Christian Science, revealed to this age by Mary Baker Eddy, has enabled millions to find the fulfillment of this holy search.
On page 1 of her book "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy gives a statement of vast importance to the searcher for God: "Humility is the stepping-stone to a higher recognition of Deity. The mounting sense gathers fresh forms and strange fire from the ashes of dissolving self, and drops the world." By means of the steppingstone of humility, we exchange the material sense of life and body and environment for the spiritual sense of reality, tangible and free. How important, then, is humility!
We are told in the first chapter of Genesis that God made man in His own image, as the likeness of His nature. The dissolving self is the counterfeit man who, according to Christian Science, has arisen from the false beliefs of mortals. The higher recognition of God as All-in-all enables one to dissolve false beliefs and to discern his true, spiritual identity.
