DEMONSTRATING TRUE IMMUNITY

From the March 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ADDRESSING one who dwells "in the secret place of the most High," the Psalmist declares, "There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling" (Ps. 91:1, 10). Christian Science points the way whereby an individual may exempt himself from becoming the victim of any plague or evil. More than mere desire for freedom, however, is needed. The individual must willingly obey the laws of God, good, in order to avoid involvement in error.

The primary demand of Science in the demonstration of immunity is that we honor only one God. One is not honoring God if he believes in the power of evil. Science also requires that we accept the Christ, the true idea of God, as the healing, protecting, saving influence in our lives. And it requires that we accept the fact that man is God's perfect image and likeness.

God's creation being entirely spiritual, perfect, and whole, mortal error cannot touch it. Nothing foreign to God, Spirit, can invade the kingdom of God or touch its inhabitants. This truth is the law of God and is applicable in human experience to annul the claims of error. It is inconsistent with God's will that one should fear or expect disease to strike him, his household, or his neighbor. Health, a quality of God, good, is alone God's will for His creation.
